April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic gold medal. She is among only a handful of female beach volleyball players that have done so. In Tokyo over the next several days, she'll be aiming to claim her third Olympic medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic gold. It could be the last chance she'll ever have as she is 39 years old. But she's confident top awards are in reach. If we play our highest or play well I feel like we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Her athletic career continued at Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several activities. When she was a student in the prep school she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. While she did well when playing indoors but it was apparent that her abilities were higher than average. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker, outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball per her college bio. For her efforts she was awarded in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. Also, she won the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. While Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman was already a big-time athlete on the beach long before their pairing. In fact, she's won numerous tournaments, including one with the legendary player of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Together with Kessy Ross was a force in the world circuit, winning the world championship in 2009. In 2012, the duo won silver at London's Olympics. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends which took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat their opponents to claim the gold. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics 2016. Ross competed for USC Trojans throughout her college prior to becoming a professional. The time she spent at the school was a memorable one. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000 as a young freshman. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans get to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss in her sophomore, but was still successful in achieving the All-American title. Over her final 2 years in the Trojans program, she guided them to a national title each year. The individual accomplishments of her have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the nation's best female collegiate player. Ross was a major in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross did not get to see her daughter's climb to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. However, she continues to keep her mother's memory close and dear. Margie is a constant source of inspiration for her both in and out of the water.
